Biography

Richard Ernest O'Shannassy (SN 2194) was born in Ballarat and attended Macarthur Street State School. As a 27 year old fireman he enlisted in Ballarat on February 25th 1915. He was posted to the 14th Infantry Battalion and embarked for Gallipoli in June on board the Wandilla. Soon after reaching Gallipoli he was killed in action on August 20th 1915. He has no known grave and his name is recorded on the Australian Memorial at Lone Pine, Turkey.

His brother Sydney was killed in France in 1918 and is also honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
