He joined the Australian Army Medical Corps, embarked aboard the Wandilla on April 10th and sailed to Egypt. He then returned to Australia on the same vessel on nursing duty. Aboard the Wiltshire he sailed back to Egypt again on nursing duty. In November 1916 he then travelled to France assigned to the 12th Field Ambulance. At war’s end he returned to Australia aboard the Port Denison, disembarked at Melbourne on May 10th 1919 and was discharged on July 9th.
