Biography

Allen Bertram Farrer (SN 2136) was born in Ballarat where he enlisted on March 5th 1915 as a 26 year old, single, labourer. As a reinforcement for the 7th infantry Battalion he embarked from Melbourne on theWandilla in mid-June and joined his unit at Gallipoli on August 5th. Just three days later he was reported as ‘missing’ after the fighting at Lone Pine, but a Court of Enquiry in June 1916 determined that he had been killed in action on August 8th 1915. He has no known grave, and his name is listed on the Australian Memorial at Lone Pine.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Allan B. Farrar.
