Biography

William Tainsh (SN 2237) was born in Ballarat East and attended the Queen Street State School. As a 25 year old stonemason, he enlisted on March 12th 1915. He posted to the 5th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Sydney in June, on board the Ceramic. He joined his unit at Gallipoli on August 5th 1915 but suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the heart on that same day. He is buried in Beach Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.
