Biography

Norman Williams (SN 3227) was born at Steiglitz and was a 20 year old labourer when he enlisted in Ballarat on March 22nd 1915. He left Australia on June 4th aboard the Ajana for service with the 6th Field Ambulance. He served at Gallipoli until he was wounded on October 9th 1915 when he suffered a shrapnel wound to his ankle. He was evacuated first to Malta and then to England. He returned to active service in June 1916 when he was transferred to the 2nd Australian General Hospital in France. From there he completed his service without major incident. He returned to Australia aboard the China, disembarked at Melbourne on June 8th 1919 and was discharged on August 7th.
