Biography

Born in Ballarat, Oswald Hector Hand was a single 21 year old gasfitter at the time of his enlistment in Melbourne, Victoria, on the 24th of March 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A14 Euripides on the 10th of May 1915.
On October 29th 1915, Oswald was admitted for a bullet wound in his right hand. He returned to Australia on the 30th of April 1916 and was discharged as medically unfit on the 13th of October 1916 after his right hand had to be amputated.
