Biography

Peter Drummond (SN 49) was born in Ballarat but enlisted in Queensland as a 29 year old miner on March 10th 1915. Assigned to the 26th Infantry Battalion he embarked aboard the Ascanius on May 24th 1915 and sailed to Egypt. While not stated on his service record, it is likely that he saw action at Gallipoli before moving to France in March 1916. In August 1916 he suffered a head wound, then in August 1918 he received a gunshot wound to his back. Three days after the signing of the Armistice he accidentally sprained his ankle. He returned to Australia aboard the City of York, disembarked on February 27th 1919 and was discharged on April 24th.
