Biography

James Arthur Eady (SN 1513) was born in Ballarat East and attended the Humffray Street State School. He enlisted on March 24th 1915 declaring himself to be 18 years of age. As a member of the 23rd Infantry Battalion, he left Melbourne on board the Euripides in May, reaching Gallipoli in late August. He moved on to France in late March 1916 where he was wounded in early August. Following treatment, he rejoined his unit 12 days later, only to be killed in the fighting around Pozieres on August 22nd 1916. He has no known grave, and his name is recorded on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. He was just 17 years of age.
