Biography

Clarence Walter Sharp (SN 1610) was born in Ballarat where he enlisted on April 16th 1915. The 20 year old, single clerk joined the 22nd Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne in late June on board the Berrima. He served at Gallipoli for a month until illness forced his evacuation to hospital on Lemnos then Malta. He had several brushes with military authorities while in Egypt after rejoining his unit but reached France in late March 1916. On July 27th 1916 he was killed in action at Pozieres. He has no known grave, and his name is on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France.
