Ernest Leslie Ebsworthy (SN 3183), born in Ballarat, was a 19 year old carpenter when he enlisted on March 23rd 1915. Assigned to the 6th Field Ambulance he embarked aboard the Afric on May 25th and sailed to Egypt. Illness forced him to hospital for a period before he was transferred to the 12th Field Ambulance and moved to France in June 1916. From his arrival in France, he was troubled by bronchitis until September 1917 when it was serious enough to have him evacuated to hospital in England. He was then assessed as unfit for further active service and was returned to Australia aboard the Argyllshire and discharged as medically unfit on May 16th 1918.
