Biography

Norman Stanley South was born in Ballarat, Victoria, was single and a Motor Repairer when he enlisted with the 7th Battalion, 7th Reinforcement on 27 April 1915 at the age of 19. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A64 Demosthenes on 16 July 1915. According to his digitised record, he was admitted to hospital in Helouan in December 1915 and returned home to Australia aboard the Kanowna in May 1916 for cardiac valvular disease.
