Biography

George Samuel Edward, a Ballarat-born Labourer, enlisted in the 8th Infantry Battalion on 18 August 1914. He received his first promotion to Corporal on 28 April 1915 before falling ill to a bout of jaundice. After hospitalization he was transferred to the 60th Battalion where he received another promotion to Sergeant. He received a gunshot wound to the right shoulder and was hospitalized again . On 18 may 1918 Sergeant Edward awarded the rank of Command Sergeant Major (Warrant Officer 2, later T/W.O. Class 1). He received his discharge on 31 January 1919.
