Biography

Frank Warburton Dickinson (SN 266 / 22106) born in Ballarat, was a 20 year old teacher when he enlisted in Maryborough on April 30th 1915. He embarked aboard the Orsova on July 7th , sailed to Egypt, and then returned ‘on duty’ aboard the Kanowna. He re-embarked on May 20th 1916 aboard the Medic with the new service number 22106. Assigned to the 8th Field Artillery Brigade he reached France in December 1916. In April 1917 he was wounded when he sustained a gunshot wound to his left hand. Once recovered, he continued to serve until a health issue caused him to be returned to Australia aboard the Corinthic. He disembarked at Melbourne on March 3rd 1918 and was discharged ‘medically unfit, shell shock' on April 6th.
