Gordon Beith from Ligar Street Ballarat served as a Lieutenant with the 24th Battalion. He reached Gallipoli in late August 1915 and was wounded in action in late November. He suffered a serious shrapnel wound to his knee, so serious that his left leg was amputated above the knee. This rendered him unfit for further active service and he was returned to Australia where he was discharged on December 28th 1916.
His brother Duncan also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
