Samuel Grinblat (SN 275) was born in Jerusalem, Palestine, but grew up in Ballarat where he attended the Humffray Street State School. He was a 22 year old cabinet maker when he enlisted in Ballarat on May 18th 1915. He was posted to the Australian Army Medical Corps to serve as an orderly on the hospital ship Kanowna which embarked from Sydney on December 22nd 1915. He was discharged on February 9th 1917, reason unspecified.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Samuel Grimblat.
