Born in Ballarat, Ernest Richard Lowe was a single 18 year old plumber when he enlisted on the 13th of May 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A70 Ballarat on the 9th of September 1915.
Whilst serving abroad, Ernest married Maggie McMaster on the 28th of January 1919 in Glasgow, Scotland.
Ernest and his wife Maggie returned to Australia on the 23rd of August 1919 and he was discharged on the 24th of October 1919 due to the termination of his enlistment period.
