James Gordon Anderson (SN 242) born in Ballarat, was a 29 year old chemist when he enlisted in Melbourne on May 21st 1915. He trained with the Medical Corps before being assigned to Hospital Transports, basically to provide nursing services aboard hospital ships. It is known that he did trips on the Orsova and the Kanowna before he was discharged on April 12th 1917.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Gordon J. Anderson.
