James Lucas enlisted in Ballarat, Victoria at the age of 21 on the 27th of May 1915. He had been born in Creswick, Victoria, was single, and was employed as a Labourer. He volunteered and was stationed with the 6th Battalion, 8th Reinforcements later transferring to the 14th Field Artillery Brigade with the Regimental number 2643. He was discharged and Returned to Australia on the 26th of July 1919. Tree number 705.
