Herbert Edward Marks (SN 8199) born in Ballarat, was a 27 year old optician and jeweller when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 13th 1915. He embarked aboard the Port Lincoln on October 18th and on arrival in Egypt he was assigned to the staff of the 2nd Australian General Hospital. In January 1916 he was transferred to the nursing staff aboard the Ulysses for a return trip to Australia with invalids. After his return to Australia, he was discharged on May 14th 1916.
