Biography

James Leslie Sim was born in Ballarat and was an Accountant by trade when he enlisted in the Infantry Brigade Train 8 on 13 July 1915 at the age of 26. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on 10 November 1915. His service was relatively trouble free until June 1st 1918 when he was thrown from the ration cart he was driving near Corbie, and a wheel passed over his arm and leg. He suffered a fractured elbow plus abrasions and bruises and spent four months recovering. He rejoined his unit to see out the last six weeks of the war. He returned to Australia on the Devanha and disembarked at Melbourne on June 23rd 1919
