Biography

John Edwin Britnell (SN 32/2nd Lt.) born at Ballarat and was a married 27 year old permanent soldier when he enlisted in the AIF. He embarked aboard the Orsova on June 7th 1915 to serve with the 36th Heavy Artillery Group. In December 1916 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major then in December 1917 he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. He avoided major illness or injury but before he came home he married Florence Braund in England on February 17th 1919. He returned to Australia aboard the Ormonde, disembarked at Melbourne on August 1st and his commission was terminated on September 30th.
