Biography

Born in John Edward Britnell when enlisted on the 7th of June 1915 in the Siege Artillery Brigade, Australian Imperial Force, with the rank of Sergeant, Number 32, and was listed as returned to Australia on the 16th of June 1919. His Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A67 'Orsova' on the 17th of July 1915. Promoted Battery Sergeant Major, 55th Seige Battery; promoted 2nd Lieutenant Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) on the 4th of January 1917; on the 16th of October 1917 granted temporary rank of Warrant officer 1st class while performing duties of Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM); promoted Lieutenant on the16th of April 1918; Lieutenant detached to 2nd Army Artillery School; on the 14th of September 1918 granted leave to UK. And was listed as returned to Australia per 'Ormonde' ex England on the 16th of June 1919. Disembarked on the 1st of August 1919. Appointment terminated on the 30th of September 1919 from the 3rd Military District. Tree No. 721
