Biography

Edward McGrath (SN 2631) was born in Raywood near Bendigo but attended the Skipton Street Christian Brothers School in Ballarat. The 24 year old labourer enlisted in Melbourne on June 8th 1915. He was drafted to the 8th Infantry Battalion and departed Australia in September on board the Makarini. He arrived in France in March 1916 where he served until May the following year. He was again posted to France in May 1918 where, on August 24th 1918, he died of wounds received during the fighting at Chuignes. He is buried in the Daours Communal Cemetery, France.
