Biography

Dugald Leslie Walshe was born in Ballarat East, Victoria, was single and a coach painter when he enlisted with the 7th Battalion, 8th Reinforcement on 8 June 1915 at the age of 19. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A68 Anchises on 26 August 1915. In March 1916 he transferred to the 60th Battalion and proceeded overseas to France. On 23 July 1916 he was wounded in action with a severe gunshot wound to the right thigh and knee, resulting in his immediate evacuation to England. He re-joined his unit from wounded on 8 February 1917 and returned overseas to France. On 28 May 1967 he received a promotion to Corporal upon the death of Cpl Humphreys. He returned home to Australia aboard the Borda on 9 December 1919.
