Biography

David Edward Oliver was born in Ballarat and was a Railway Employee when he enlisted in the 6th Battalion, 7th Reinforcement on 8 June 1915 at the age of 32. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A64 Demosthenes on 16 July 1915. . He joined the 6th Battalion on Lemnos on October 31st and saw the last six weeks of the Gallipoli campaign. In April 1916 he arrived in France and, aside from a week in hospital due to influenza, came through the war without serious physical injury. He returned to Australia on the Kildonan Castle and disembarked at Melbourne on May 7th 1919.
