Leslie Absolom Peters Ellingsen (SN 2574) born in Ballarat, was a 21 year old electrician when he enlisted in Melbourne on June 9th 1915. He embarked aboard the Makarini on September 15th to serve with the 8th Infantry Battalion and he saw action at Gallipoli in the final days of that campaign. Once back in Egypt he was transferred to the 60th Battalion for service on the Western Front. He was further transferred to the 15th Light Trench Mortar before he suffered a severe gunshot wound to his upper arm. He was returned to Australia aboard the Benalla, disembarked at Melbourne on April 10th 1917 and was discharged‘medically unfit’ on May 17th.
