Joseph Henry Kinnane (SN 144) born at Warrenheip , was a 25 year old labourer when he enlisted in Queenscliff on August 18th 1914. Assigned to the 8th Infantry Battalion, he embarked aboard the Benalla on October 20th and on April 25th 1915 he took part in the Gallipoli landing at which he suffered a gunshot wound to his leg. He was evacuated for two months recovery but returned only to be wounded again in August, a shrapnel wound to his scalp. He went on to serve in France only to be wounded again in April 1918, a gunshot wound that fractured his arm. He was returned to Australia aboard the Arawa, disembarked at Melbourne on November 18th 1918 and after further treatment was discharged on November 24th 1919.
