Daniel James Hoban (2nd Lt.) born at Molesworth Victoria, was a married 34 year old auctioneer when he enlisted in Melbourne on June 28th 1915. On April 1st 1916 he embarked aboard the Suffolk and in May he joined the 7th Infantry Battalion in France. In July he suffered severe shrapnel wounds to both legs and was evacuated to hospital in England where his right leg was amputated. He was returned to Australia aboard the Karoola, disembarked at Melbourne on April 10th 1917 and was discharged medically unfit on May 25th.
