Biography

Reginald George Beaston (SN 1803) was born in Ballarat and attended the Humffray Street State School. He enlisted in Melbourne in June 1915, aged 19, unmarried and employed as a groom. He was allocated to the 24th Infantry Battalion and embarked on July 16th aboard the Demosthenes bound for Gallipoli. On November 29th 1915, at only 19 years old, he was killed in action in heavy fighting around Hill 60 to the north of Anzac Cove. His body was never recovered and his sacrifice is commemorated on the Australian Memorial at Lone Pine. He is also remembered on the honour board of the Humffray Street State School.
