Biography

Ferdinand Benjamin Heinze was a single 24 year old labourer at the time of his enlistment on the 16th of June 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A68 Anchises on the 26th of August 1915.
On the 27th of July 1916, Ferdinand was promoted Lance Corporal, and then Corporal on the 27th of November 1916.
On the 30th of March 1917, Ferdinand was promoted to Sergeant.
On the 10th of July 1918, Ferdinand was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal. He was wounded in action on the 1st of September 1918 and invalided to the U.K on the 5th of September.
Ferdinand returned to Australia on the 22nd of May 1919 and was discharged on the 15th of July 1919 due to the termination of his enlistment period.
