Biography

Edward James O'Reilly (SN 197) was born in Ararat, but attended Ballarat’s Urquhart Street State School. He enlisted in Ballarat on August 18th 1914. He was a painter, and was aged 20, and still single. He joined the 8th Infantry Battalion and embarked with the first Anzac fleet in October. He was killed in the Landing at Anzac Cove, has no known grave, and his name is on the Australian Memorial at Lone Pine, Gallipoli, Turkey.

His brother Patrick also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
