Charles Walker (SN 1643) was born in Stawell, but enlisted as a labourer in Fitzroy on January 29th 1915. He was married and 45 years of age. He was posted to the 22nd Infantry Battalion and embarked aboard the Berrima in late June of that year. During his service he was promoted to Lance Corporal. On August 10th 1916 he died of wounds suffered at Mouquet Farm, near Pozieres, and is buried in St Sever Communal Cemetery, Rouen, France.
