Biography

Lionel Richard Perkins Nhill, VIC and was an Ironmoulder living in Ballarat by trade when he enlisted in the 8th Light Horse Regiment, 14th Reinforcement on 27 June 1915 at the age of 18. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A1 Hymettus on 27 January 1916. . While in Egypt he was attached to the 11th Field Artillery Battery with whom he moved to France in June. In November 1916 he was hospitalised with Trench Fever then in June 1917 he was evacuated to England suffering from influenza. He returned to France in April 1918 and saw out the war. He returned to Australia on the Commonwealth, disembarking at Melbourne on June 8th 1919.
