Biography

John Edward Andrew Phillipson was born in Ballarat and was an Engineer by trade when he enlisted in the 14th Battalion, 12th Reinforcement on 1 July 1915 at the age of 26. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A40 Ceramic on 23 November 1915. He transferred to the 46th Battalion with whom he served for most of his time at the Front. In August 1918 he was transferred to the Australian Postal Corps as a Corporal Postal Orderly. After the war he returned to Australia on the Armagh, disembarking at Melbourne in May 1919.
