John McFadyen (SN 3385) born at Ballarat, was a 21year old painter when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 1st 1915. He embarked aboard the Nestor on October 11th first to Egypt and in June 1916 to France to serve with the 14th Infantry Battalion. He avoided battle wounds but was hospitalised for three months in 1917 suffering from pleurisy. He returned to Australia aboard the Port Napier, disembarked at Melbourne on July 2nd 1919 and was discharged on August 25th.
