Biography

Arthur Ernest Reece (SN 2882) was born in Ballarat and was working at Creswick when he enlisted on July 15th 1915. A widower with one child, the 26 year old wood turner was assigned to the 21st Infantry Battalion. He embarked for active service from Melbourne on board the Moldavia in October and arrived in France in March 1916. He was wounded in action in July and evacuated to England and did not rejoin his unit until August 1917. On October 9th 1917 he was killed in action near Ypres. He has no known grave but his name is recorded on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
