John Headlam, born in Echuca, Vic and a tailor by trade, enlisted in the 8th Infantry Battalion on 18 August 1914. His tour was short, however, as he was discharged back to Australia on 15 April 1915 as medically unfit, receiving a medical discharge from service on 7 July 1915.
