Biography

Leslie Blackman (SN 3234), was a 30 year old blacksmith from Miners Rest when he enlisted in July 1915. He left Australia on October 11th on the Nestor to serve with the 5th Battalion. He went first to Egypt and then reached France at the end of March 1916. Sadly, just three months later he was killed in action at Ploegsteert in Belgium on June 29th. He is buried at the Berks Cemetery Extension at Ploegsteert.
