Biography

David Edmund Jerrerd (SN 4230) born at Kaniva, was a married 28 year old traveller when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 12th 1915. He embarked aboard the Demosthenes on December 29th to serve in France with the 14th Infantry Battalion. On April 11th, 1917, at Bullecourt he was reported missing before it was confirmed he had become a prisoner of war. He spent 20 months in captivity until the war ended and he was repatriated to England in December 1918. He was returned to Australia aboard the Derbyshire, disembarked at Melbourne on April 22nd 1919 and was discharged on June 6th.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as David E. Jerrard.
