Biography

George Herbert Greenwood (SN 287) was educated at the Pleasant Street State School and was a 20 year old bank clerk when he enlisted on August 18th 1914. He sailed from Melbourne with the 8th Infantry Battalion in October aboard the Benalla, first to Egypt then to Gallipoli. He was killed at the historic Gallipoli landing on April 25th1915. He has no known grave and is listed on the Australian Memorial at Lone Pine, Gallipoli. He was 21 years of age.
