Biography


Garnet Angus Williamson was a single 27 year old bank clerk when he enlisted on the 7th of July 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A18 Wiltshire on the 7th of March 1916. On the 1st of November 1917 he was promoted from Lieutenant to Captain. He was wounded in action on the 18th of April 1918 after being gassed. He was awarded the Military Cross for distinguished service in the field. Garnet embarked from England for return to Australia on the 23rd of June 1919 and was discharged on the 29th of September 1919 due to the termination of his enlistment period.
