Biography

Michael Joseph Gavin (SN 4197) was born in Ballarat East where he attended the Mt. Pleasant State School. He was a 20 year old labourer when he enlisted on July 7th 1915. He joined the 14th Battalion and was hospitalised for a time in Egypt due to illness. He moved on to France and while in the trenches in the Corbie area he was severely wounded on December 4th 1916, and was evacuated to the 36th Casualty Clearing Station where he died on December 16th 1916. He is buried in the Heilly Station Cemetery, France. He was 21 years of age.
