Biography

Arthur Edward Jarvis (SN 3369) was born in Rutherglen but attended the Sebastopol State School. The 19 year old was working as a carpenter at the time of his enlistment on July 7th 1915. He joined the 14th Infantry Battalion and sailed from Melbourne in October on board the Nestor. He underwent further training in Egypt until tragedy struck. He was off duty when he went swimming in the Suez Canal with two other soldiers on May 15th 1916. He dived in and struck his head, fracturing his skull, and died soon after. He is buried in the lsmailia Military Cemetery, Cairo, Egypt.
