Biography

CSM Frank Merrett, a Melbourne-born clerk, enlisted in the 8th Infantry Battalion on 18 August 1914. He was appointed acting Quartermaster Sergeant on 02 Dec 1915. He received a promotion to Company Quartermaster Sergeant on 29 Feb 1916. After falling ill with a cold and sore throat, which resulted in hospitalization, Merrett was transferred back to the 8th Infantry Battalion and was wounded in action having suffered a gas attack on 26 August 1918. He was administered to the 2nd East General Hospital in Brighton, later transferred to 1st Auxiliary Hospital on 17 September 1918. He received his final discharge on 28 March 1919.
