Biography

George Robert Mansfield (SN 4831) born at Ballarat was a 20 year old tailor when he enlisted at Ballarat on July 16th 1915 . He embarked aboard the Wiltshire on March 7th 1916 and by July he had joined the 8th Infantry Battalion in France. From May 1917 to June 1918 he was detached to the Anzac Corps School in England. At war’s end he returned to Australia aboard the Devon, disembarked at Melbourne on November 27th 1919 and was discharged on January 30th 1920.
