Biography

Patrick James Franklin Malone (SN 1352) was born at Mt. Egerton and was an 18 year old driver when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 8th 1915. On October 26th he embarked aboard the Hawkes Bay and sailed to Egypt for service with the 8th Light Horse Regiment. His early service was hampered by mumps and tonsilitis, then in 1918 he was hospitalised with malaria, but otherwise he avoided battle wounds. After the war he returned home aboard the Malta, disembarked at Melbourne on August 7th 1919 and was discharged on September 29th.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Patrick J. E. Malone.
