Alfred James Dunne (SN 4255) born in Ballarat was a 21 year old blacksmith when he enlisted in Ballarat on November 26th 1915. From his earliest days of training, it was apparent that he had some hearing loss and on December 30th he was discharged ‘medically unfit, middle ear disease’.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Alfred J. Dunn.
