Biography

Robert Henry Stanley Dean (SN 4171) was born in Ballarat and attended the Wendouree State School. He was 20 years old, unmarried, and employed as a moulder when he enlisted on July 8th 1915 with the permission of his father. He joined the 14th Infantry Battalion and left home for the battle fields of the Western Front on board the Demosthenes a few days after Christmas.. He arrived in France in June 1916 and was promoted to Lance Corporal soon after. He was killed in the fighting at Pozieres on August 7th 1916. He has no known grave and his name is recorded on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France.
