Arthur Edgar Dorrington (SN 4177) born at Hhill, was a 31 year old draper when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 14th 1915. Assigned to the 14th Infantry Battalion he embarked aboard the Demosthenes on December 29th and came ashore in France in June 1916. Later that year he started to develop a knee problem and by March 1917 he was evacuated to England for assessment and treatment. While there he was charged with disobeying orders regarding dress by not wearing his chin strap. He returned to Australia aboard the Sardinia, disembarked on December 27th 1918 and was discharged ‘medically unfit’ on February 3rd 1919.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Edgar A. Dorrington.
