Biography

Duncan McKellar Robertson (SN 3433) was born in Ballarat and educated at Dana Street State School. He enlisted in Ballarat on July 8th 1915 as a 19 year old, unmarried labourer. He was posted to the 6th Infantry Battalion and embarked for active service in October on board the Nestor. He arrived in France the following March but spent much of the remainder of 1916 in hospital with cellulitis which eventually resulted in his evacuation to England. He eventually rejoined his unit in June 1917 but was killed in action at Passchendaele on September 20th 1917. He has no known grave, and his name is listed on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
