Biography

Joseph James Lugg (SN 302) was born in Ballarat where he was educated at the Brown Hill and Little Bendigo State Schools. He was 26 years old and employed as a gardener, when he enlisted on August 18th 1914. He joined the 8th Infantry Battalion and left Australia in October on board the Benalla, bound for Gallipoli. On August 6th 1915 he was killed at Lone Pine, and is buried at Ari Burnu Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.
